May 2021

Time is flying by, even though Corona is still holding its grip on the world. Summer is at the door and we hope and wish that everyone can enjoy it despite possible limitations. In the summertime the projects continue as usual. Even better: We’ve added two sideprojects to the projects we’ve been talking about in the news from march, with the help from Wilde Ganzen. In this item we’re going to jump into the details, but first we’re starting off with a very special milestone.

  • Milestone for employee from the very beginning, Kasper Hoekman
  • Pre-school done and in use
  • Start projects from the news item in march 2021
  • New project application at Wilde Ganzen with two urgent requests
  • Father Carowf in action: Blooddonation
  • From Father Avalin to Father Justin

Christmas Greetings 2020

In our Christmas Greeting last year we spoke about a crisis situation. At that time we had no idea what 2020 would bring. Corona has impacted lives all over the world, here in the Netherlands and also in Sri Lanka. The difference is that in Holland we live in freedom and enjoy so many luxuries that the people of Sri Lanka do not have.Perhaps you have seen the images on the news of the dire situations in many developing countries. I remember the voice-over saying, “Because of Corona people cannot work. No work means no income. No money means no food. There is great danger of starvation….” This is exactly the situation in the Northern area of Sri Lanka, where our foundation is at work. Our people there are very afraid of Corona and are suffering from hunger. There are no facilities or provisions to help. As if this was not enough, A cyclone passed over the North of Sri Lanka leaving great damage and more suffering in its wake.

These are the realities we have to deal with today and it leaves us sober and concerned. Havonos is focusing its energies at this time on emergency relief aid. We are working together with our partner SEHH. These are the steps we follow:

  • We collect funds and transfer them to our contacts in Sri Lanka working with OMI.
  • These people contact the elders of the villages so as to determine where the need is greatest. Provisions are purchased, mostly rice.
  • Our contacts from OMI are directly involved in the distribution of the foodstuffs so as to ensure that those with the greatest need actually receive the provisions.

Will you help? Donations can be made to our account number NL89 RABO 0121 6189 23 under the name Havonos. Please specify that the donation is for “Emergency Relief Aid Sri Lanka”. Your gift is tax deductible.
Christmas is the season of light and hope. That is why we again ask for your help!
We are very grateful for all the help and support we have received in the past year, so that we could continue our work in Sri Lanka in these difficult Corona times.

We wish you all, despite Corona, a very Merry Christmas and a peace, loving and healthy 2021! We hope that next year we may celebrate together with all our loved ones, here and in Sri Lanka.
Below the message from Father Eugene, our new Provincial OMI and from Father Carowf at YEC.

July 2020

The special summer of 2020 has arrived. Special, because everything is still "different than usual". Because of COVID-19, many compatriots choose to celebrate their holiday in their own country. In Sri Lanka there is certainly no vacation. It is purely about survival, which we will tell you about in this newsletter. Fortunately, there are also positive stories to share with you. In this newsletter you will read successively about:

  • The current situation in Sri Lanka with regard to COVID-19 and emergency aid
  • A new OMI Provincial as of October 2020
  • Father Carowf new director of the YEC
  • State of affairs at Father Avalin (learning / working farm)
  • The Johan Wind Prize
  • The new pre-school in Mulankavil almost ready

So much to share with you. We will get started soon and wish you a lot of reading pleasure!
