It's been some time ago that you could read about our work. This does not mean we were not working in the past few months. The opposite is true: we were busy with requests for subsidies for new projects and the completion of other projects. In this newsletter you can read more over these actions. We thank you for your interest and attention.
Wanted: treasurer for the board
Havonos treasurer is going to stop his activities. This means: we have a vacancy. Usually we end the newsletter with an appeal. This time we start with it. Request Wild Geese for learning and working farm approved
Great was our joy and relief when we finally heard that in early February Wild Geese has approved our application for the learning and working farm for the widows.

The learning and working farm is a huge project and a continuation of the widow project that we realised in 2015, with the support of Wild Geese and the WOR (Harvest Gift Stöppelhaene 2015). The widows show entrepreneurship and involvement in this project and have expressed the desire to learn more about animal care and working the land. Now, with the financial approval in their pocket, they can begin to build. Of course we will keep you informed about the progress, writing about it and showing you photographs .

Project Wild Geese, YEC completed
We are proud to announce that the YEC project was concluded with a final report for which we have received compliments from Wild Geese. Of course we are very happy with these compliments, but more fantastic are the results of the project itself: a beautiful school where students work hard on their future. The Fathers of O.M.I. who supervised the entire project in Sri Lanka can be proud of this wonderful result, achieved through their tireless efforts and energy. Great! (See photos here)
Arnoud and Gertie de Zwart-Kleinburink visited Havonos projects
Some time ago we were contacted by Arnoud and Gertie de Zwart from Raalte They told us they would go on holidays in Sri Lanka, and why not being only a tourist. They wanted to visit some of our projects and, in particular, the projects where the harvest gift of Stöppelhaene has been spent. Because of our very close relations with Sri Lanka, plans were elaborated quick and easily. The journey began, and regularly pictures and reports reached us. Fantastic! Now Arnoud and Gertie are back, full of impressions and enthusiastic stories. But they can tell this much better themselves, so we now expect the records of their visit. We are impatient. You too?
Emergency help orphanage Sister Chrishani
In the last newsletter we told you about the transfer of Sister Chrishani to an orphanage. Meanwhile, we know more about it and we are very shocked. Sister Chrishani runs, with just only one other sister, the orphanage ‘Anna's Home for Children’, whith 75 children for whom they want to provide a safe home. But, given the wretched conditions in the home, that is almost impossible. The kitchen was completely broken, leaving them cooking the rice for the children outside on wood fires. Sanitary is not there and "showering" happens in very primitive circumstances outside, in a well. We often have seen poverty and poor conditions, but this was surpassing just anything. Therefore, we decided to provide emergency assistance. In the meantime, the sisters started to build a kitchen. (See report here, in Dutch)
Arnoud and Gertie Black also visited this orphanage. At our request they have as much as possible brought toys, donated by customers of Albert Heijn Eschmarke 1814 Enschede through their action in the end of 2016. The toys are given to the orphanage, where the children had nothing to play with. The pictures of the children with the toys speak for themselves. That’s why we did it!
Donations
We traditionally receive more donations at the end of the year we also we have send a number of requests to associations and foundations that support very specificly our projects.
We received € 2,000 from the Association ‘Train 8:28 H.IJ.S.M.’ for playground equipment and the construction of a solid fence around the YEC.
From Herbahortus Foundation we received € 1,000 for the renovation of the orphanage "Anna's Home for Children".
Also from several diaconiën in Hattem, Raalte and Oldenzaal we received pretty sums. Every donation is more than welcome, because only then we can realize our projects.
So far this newsletter. We informed you again of the current state of affairs. Our focus is currently mainly on achieving the learning and working farm and to improve the conditions in the orphanage of Sister Chrishani and her colleagues. Sometimes we are hands full.
