Furnishing the pre-school
After a long delay caused by the attacks last year at Easter time, we are happy to report that the new pre-school is almost finished! It is beautiful. We can’t wait until the children and teachers will be able to enjoy the new facility. Before this can happen, the school needs to be furnished. We have started a collection campaign to make this possible. Would you consider donating so that the children can be equipped with the furnishings they need to learn? www.geef.nl Thank you!
Developments at the farm

The First Solar Panels
In September’s newsletter we let you know of our plans (together with our partner Stichting Een Helpende Hand (SEHH) and Wilde Ganzen) to help the farm become self-sufficient. There are many things that still need to happen in order to realize this goal, but we have made progress! Solar panels have been installed, which gives the farm an environmentally friendly source of energy. The sun certainly shines in Sri Lanka! The solar panels are also very beneficial in that the farm is no longer dependent on the unreliable electricity grid in the area. A camera has also been installed, which lessens some of Father Avalin’s concerns about security.

List of things yet to be done:
- Expansion of the stalls and the chicken coops
- A large well with pump for the irrigation of 50 hectares of land
- Two classrooms that can be joined to make one large room
- Two stores on the property: one store for products direct form the farm, such as milk and meat and one store for selling other products such as herbs and spices.
We will continue to inform you about the progress of the farm. We are happy to say that the farm is already a big success! The many widows in the area (due to the war) as well as the local population are able to get their foodstuffs at the farm. The lessons the children are able to follow at the farm are also very valuable.
Visit from the board of Stichting Een Helpende Hand (SEHH)
Some board members from our partner SEHH were recently in Sri Lanka. They visited our joint projects and even took the time to see the Havonos projects. We were very honored! A report will follow in our next newsletter! We hope you are looking forward to reading about the visit as much as we are excited to share!
Donation Foundation TransFair
|
|
At the teaching farm, children from the village Iyakachchi and other surrounding places are able to take lessons in computers among other things. Cani is the computer teacher. Her training last year in the Netherlands was made possible by Rockids Foundation in Hilversum. Cani sent us a list of things she could use for the computer lessons. Thanks to a donation from the Foundation TransFair she has received a professional printer/copier, a projector (multimedia), a laptop and six computer tables. We are very thankful for this generous donation given by TransFair! |
Donation ZWO Rijssen
|
|
All of a sudden the amount of €500 appeared in our foundation’s account! After some investigating we discovered that ZWO Rijssen was our generous benefactor! We will make sure the money is put to good use in one of our projects! |
Donations PKN Raalte and Hofkerk Oldenzaal
|
Another surprise! We received the amount of €550 from PKN Raalte and Hofkerk Oldenzaal has also taken up an offering for the foundation. We will surely be able to use these gifts in a beautiful way! ZWO Rijssen, PKN Raalte and Hofkerk Oldenzaal we thank you deeply for your gifts and support. It is because of gifts like yours that we are able to continue our work and so touch many lives in a positive way. Havonos has an ANBI statement. Donations are tax deductible. Some restrictions may apply, so check with your accountant. |
