This time we are later than normal with our news letter. In recent months, chairman Sieni Schouten was very busy with a very special event and honor, which you can read about in this news article. Apart from that, we have more positive news to report. Visit Famous Dutch Woman TV host - Actress , with film crew in Raalte and Havonos projects in Sri Lanka
| Perhaps you have already read about it in the newspapers? A couple of weeks ago, a well-known presenter and actress, Nicolette van Dam, came with a film crew in Raalte in the house of Havonos chairwoman Sieni Schouten. Here we tell you why this happened. The Havonos Foundation has been working for years with Wilde Ganzen to raise funds for the Havonos projects. Wilde Ganzen supports charity organizations with funds that it receives from, for example, donations, legacies, and also from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery. To promote the Postcode Lottery, the beneficiaries of the lottery can introduce themselves to the Dutch public and in Spring 2018 it is the turn of Wilde Ganzen. Wilde Ganzen would like to show the results of her activities and has decided to do this with their projects in Sri Lanka, including those of Havonos. It were busy weeks for our chair woman Sieni Schouten. She has made an enormous effort to prepare the visit of Wilde Ganzen and the Famous Dutch Actress and to establish the communication with the OMI Fathers. Sieni was interviewed at home about the projects in Sri Lanka in order to prepare the visit, with a film crew, of Nicolette, the so called Dutch Famous Woman, to Sri lanka, where recordings of the projects were going to be made. Wise choices had to be made and that was not easy because in recent years Havonos, with your help and support, achieved so many good results! If it were up to us, the film crew had to visit ALL those realized projects, but unfortunately that was not possible. In the end, Sieni, with the help and dedication of the Fathers OMI, managed to get out the most of the visit of Nicolette and her team to Sri Lanka. Due to the wet season, not all projects were equally accessible and the film crew only had a few days to film. Particularly enthusiastic and impressed by what they have seen and heard, the film crew in the mean time has returned on Dutch soil. |

Learn / work farm as good as ready
In the previous news report we wrote that the learning / working farm was in operation, despite the fact that the farm itself still had to be built. Meanwhile, the construction of the farm is going on quickly and OMI Fathers Seger and Avalin are sending us enthusiastic messages and photos. What a pleasure and satisfaction to see the widows to be so enthusiastic, hardworking and involved. It's fantastic!
Asparagus, suitable for cultivation in tropical climate
Via Henk and Florentina de Weerd, our Salland asparagus farmers, we received asparagus from a grower in Limburg, who developed a special Asparagus variety which can grow in a tropical climate. So it came, that the film crew of the National Postcode Lottery took seedlings of these asparagus to Sri Lanka, where they are further cultivated at the leather / work farm in Kokkilai and at the Sieco community house in Mullikulam where Fr. Harance is in charge of a model farm. We wish our people in Sri Lanka a prosperous growing season and harvest with this unique new vegetable and we are very curious about the result!

Repeated call: who can help us with the one-off shipping of goods to Sri Lanka?
Unfortunately, our call in the previous news item did not yet deliver the desired result. We are still looking for someone who can help us to send / ship items from the Netherlands to Sri Lanka. Maybe someone has a part of a container over, or another suggestion? Also, especially after the recent illness of our chairwoman Sieni, there is an urgent need for an involved, enterprising and pro-active help with a sense of responsibility, who can assist Sieni in her work. We will be happy to hear from you! !
So far this newsletter. We are pleased and grateful to note that all the projects, both completed and ongoing, are running very smoothly. The people in Sri Lanka are all involved and feel extremely responsible for what you and we have made possible for them. That responsibility and commitment give us the energy to continue.
