The summer holiday is almost over and we hope you are returned healthy and equipped and full of 'solar energy'. I also hope that you enjoyed the beautiful Stöppelhaene. With us the memory came back of Stöppelhaene 2015 and 2016. In 2015, we presented our harvest-giving project "From the ground up" during the Boerendag. Widows received a cow, a goat, some chicken or seed to provide for their living. In 2016 we were allowed to account for the spending of the money during the Boerendag. It was great!

New Secretary and Treasurer found!
We have managed to - finally - find a new secretary and a new treasurer. The volunteer bank Raalte tipped us and - coincidence does not exist - we found a treasurer (who lives obliquely opposite our chairman), named Toos Swart. In addition to our new treasurer, we also found a new secretary, Karin Scholten. She lives in Borne. Toos and Karin both are eager to work for Havonos. We wish them a very nice, meaningful and enjoyable time!
We are glad that now the board is complete and that we do not have to put our energy there again.
Playgrounds at orphanage Anna's Home, made possible by school ‘De Horizon’
In the previous newsletter we wrote about the visit that members of the board, Sieni Schouten and Mirjam van den Berg, brought to Sri Lanka. Mirjam van den Berg is a teacher at The Horizon and honored to hand over the proceeds of the Vastenactie, sponsorship course, and all kinds of activities by ‘De Horizon’ students and teachers to sister Chrishani, who leads an orphanage where 75 girls receive a loving care. Some of The Horizon's money was intended for playground equipments around the house. With the donated money sister Chrishani bought beautiful, sturdy play equipments, which have now been placed. The children enjoy it every day after school. See more pictures here.
Children, parents, teachers and family members of ‘De Horizon’: on behalf of the children of Anna's Home and Zr. Chrishani, thank you very much! They are also very happy that the improvements in the kitchen. We continue with the very necessary renovation.
Learning / working farm in the running
When, traditionally, the First Stone was laid for the start of the farm, the surrounding land was already in use for the animals of the project. The widows, involved in the project, and Fr. Seger en Fr. OMI Avalin responsible for running the project, are so excited and involved that they like to share the activities with us.
The enthusiastic Father recently sent us a message that their first crop has been harvested and sold, thus enabling the widows to provide something for their living. We enjoy such stories. I suppose you too, isn’t it? See more pictures here
Scouting Raalte - Aspergebedrijf de Weerd
Very nice to see that the car builders of Scouting Raalte have won the first prize of the Oogstcorso on the Stöppelhaene in Raalte this year. Congratulations.
They always build these cars in the halls of Aspergebedrijf de Weerd's, Henk and Florentina De Weerd allow them to use the halls for free, and if they want they can make a contribution to Havonos.
To our surprise, the Scouting has transferred 75 euros to Havonos.
Scouting people and family de Weerd, thank you very much! We make sure it will end up in a good way.
The summer of our unfortunate chairman Sieni Schouten
In May, Sieni has been in Sri Lanka. That's why she wanted to celebrate her summer holiday in the neighbourhood of her home, in her caravan. But everything turned out different from her plan: Sieni 'celebrated' her summer vacation, in an all-inclusive 4-star resort, named the Deventer Hospital. She did not enjoy it and there was no fun. Instead she crippled through the eye of the needle with a two-fold breakthrough inflammatory bowel infection. Her stay in the hospital lasted 3 weeks and she was and still is not fully recovered from all the complications that came along, as they were direct consequences of her inflamed lumbar. According to the doctors the complete recovery may take months!
We send her our love and wish her a good recovery!
Needed some special help
We are still looking for someone who can help us ship items from the Netherlands to Sri Lanka. Maybe someone has a place in a container or another suggestion? We will be happy to hear from you.
So far this newsletter. The projects run like as quickly as a train and in the next newsletter we hope to report again on new developments. By that time, the fall will be gone. We wish you a beautiful after summer!
