Christmas. A feast in our country during which we are buried with good wishes. And there is New Year. That’s the way it is: a happy, peaceful, blessed, great, loving Christmas and New Year. Full of expectations and courage we begin our feast days and then we return to everyday’s life. That is to say: in our western world. And especially in the Netherlands. Of course, there is always something to worry about, but in general we can manage. And if any disaster happens somewhere in the world where life is not so easy, then the Dutch people are always willing to to help. That’s what we are famous for: solidarity with people. “Because we have a good life”. It is not very surprising that we write this article. You have helped us to help. You have been supporting us in our work in the village of Nilaveli (Trincomalee district) in the area that was hit by the Tsunami on December 26th 2004 in North East Sri Lanka.

With the essential help of Father Gunam and his local organization SAC the building activities and repairing activities were started; children can go to school again and we help the local economy going on. But we have still a long way to go: it is a matter of sustaining to build up a destroyed country and to build up a new infrastructure. And with your help we are able to do so. We really trust and hope that in 2008 you will support our work “to the best of you ability” As we are working on a small scale and in a very direct way, it is possible to keep you informed about the progress of the projects that have been started and realized with your contributions. Look at our website. So you can check where your money is going to and what it is spent on!

After the very busy, but great Stöppelhaene festivities back to "normal life" again.
Under the button recent developments you can watch the latest pictures and information about the progress of N-O-Sri Lanka. (Look what schools can mean for schools).

Gunam has had a wonderful time in Raalte and he enjoyed all the activities. The priest was very much impressed by the fact what people do to collect money for "his" people in Sri Lanka.
Below this you see his expresses of thanks which he wrote in the Church book.

In this way we would like to thank you very much for the amount of € 2000 which our foundation received from you. A fantastic amount! We think that it is very special that good results can be achieved by selling old or second hand articles and that the results are spent on charity purposes throughout the world. We really hope that De Oude Kassa will be able to continue her good activities for a very long time. The members of our foundation wish them good luck.

Our thank also go to the Brummelman family, who has drawn everyone's attention to the Havonos Foundation.

We are very happy to inform you that Rev. Father Gunam, our implementing partner in Nilaveli, Sri Lanka, will be present in Raalte during the Stöppelhaene celebration. Our gratitude goes out to the sponsor who made it possible to let Father Gunam join us.

During the Stöppelhaene, Father Gunam will be present and participate in several activities. Therefore it will be possible to meet him. We are looking forward to a fantastic Stöppelhaene and hope for superb harvest gift for nort-east Sri Lanka.

THE NEW FARMER OF SALLAND IS .....
Mr HENK DE WEERD

This was announced on July, 21 during the Stöppelhaene rye harvest festival. The proceeds of that day are to the benefit of Havonos. Henk is member of the governors of Havonos and in this way he wants to give publicity to Havonos. The more people help, the more people in Sri Lanka can be served.
Henk thank you very much on behalf of all people in north-east Sri Lanka!

The sale of lily-bulbs in March and April 2007 was very successfully. The proceeds of € 780 made us very happy!
Family De Weerd: thank you so much!

We would like to thank pupils of the Carmel College Salland, unit Metal Technique, who have constructed

beautiful and solid savings boxes, under the leadership of Roel Stuurwold.Also we render thanks to M-Ring Coatings who have coated all boxes (see photograph).

At the same time we would like to thank Jeroen de Weerd and Schooten Constructional Firm for the savings boxes they had already made for us. At the moment all these fine boxes are in use!

The proceeds of the charity walk from the Korenbloem school were absolutely fabulous: € 5.671,36!

I like to thank with all my heart the children, teachers, parents and sponsors.

This amount will be used for buying new educational tools. Besides they will be able to start the enlargement of the school.

Protestant Parish Oldenzaal

The Protestant Parish Oldenzaal campaigned for us again. They organised a hotchpotch-meal after a divine service. Many people enjoyed the nicely prepared hotchpotches!
The result was € 257 for Havonos. Thanks a lot!

The Whitsunconcert from choir ‘Praise the Lord’ in Notter brought in € 881,72.
To all co-workers of the concert and to all generous donors: Thank you very much!

Primary school 'De Korenbloem' Raalte will organise another activity for Havonos at Wednesday 23 May, what makes us very happy! This time all children of various ages participate in a sponsored run. It really is heart-warming to realise that these children participate in this run to help their fellow-children in Sri Lanka!!

We wish them all good luck!

At Saturday 26 May there will be a concerto in the Grote Kerk at Vriezenveen. This concerto will start at 7.30 PM.

The thought of Whitsuntide dominates this night by means of choir and community singing, conducted by Jan Quintus Zwart, Peter Burger, organ, and Leon Koppelman Pan-pipe.

The profits of that night go to the Havonos foundation.

First of all we are grateful to Dirk Visser who has translated our Havonos website in the English language! Dirk, it was not an easy job at all, but you DID it! You did it for us, but you did it especially for all readers who are not able to read or understand the Dutch language. Many, many thanks!

Next we would like to thank the Rotary Serviceclub Raalte for their contribution. We have welcomed this gift very much and are very grateful to them! For the people in Sri Lanka it means that people in other parts of the world (i.e in the Netherlands) care for them and are concerned about them! Their personal feelings are hardly to describe!

Sale lily-bulbs

We are very happy to inform you that Asperge and Bulbcompany De Weerd offered us a certain amount of pink lily-bulbs for sale.
The price of the bulbs is € 5,- for 7 bulbs (commercial value € 11,-). They have to be planted in April or May.

We are looking for people to sell these bulbs for us. Members of schools, clubs, choirs, companies etc, etc. Are you interested..??

to the management, staff, volunteers and parents of “De Korenbloem”. Their Christmas project raised a total of 419, 60 euros. We are delighted with this fantastic result. This money can be put to good use in Sri Lanka. We were given a great welcome in the school, where we told about our projects. During and after the Christmas walk we enjoyed the hospitable atmosphere, to which many contributed in and around the school playground. We are looking forward to a similar co-operative atmosphere when we join other activities.
