HAVONOS: aim and working methods:
“ A hungry person is not to be given a fish, but a rod and to be taught how to fish!”
It is by this principle that HAVONOS and its partner organisation in Sri Lanka, the SAC, work closely together to improve the quality of life in our project area.
Aim:
Together with the SAC HAVONOS aims at improving the social and economic standard of living in Nilavelli and its surroundings (in the Trincomalee district). Hereby the main aim is to ensure the self-support of the local population, thus creating optimal possibilities for development.
HAVONOS wants to contribute to the Millennium goals 1.-2.-3.-7.-8.

Working methods:
Concerning all projects HAVONOS and the SAC operate according to the following working methods:
- Projects are brought forward to HAVONOS by the SAC. The local population is very much involved in deciding on what goals ( i.e. what projects) should be realised. Wide public support is ensured by actively involving the beneficiaries in the process.
- HAVONOS judges these projects and decides whether or not to support them.
- HAVONOS arranges the financial means to execute the projects. The projects are carried out by the local population, especially by those who benefit from them; the SAC coordinates and monitors. Only in case of very specific activities the SAC calls in any specialists; all necessary materials and equipment are bought locally to support the local economy.
- HAVONOS is in direct contact with Father Gunam of the SAC and reports regularly on the progress of the projects, which reports are illustrated by photos and footage.
- HAVONOS is financially responsible for the projects as well as responsible for reporting in The Netherlands on the progress of the projects, which is done through the websites, by having information meetings and by reporting to the supporters (a.o. “NCDO”, “Wilde Ganzen”, “Twente voor Azië” en “Stichting Stöppelhaene” in Raalte).
